- 요약The singing voice goes through physical changes such as water retention, lack of flexibility, and vocal fatigue days before and during menstruation. Limited research has been conducted on the singing voice during menstruation. Eleven singers who have taken at least one semester of voice lessons and do not take hormonal contraception were utilized for this study. An FDA approved medical grade electroglottograph and microphone were used to gather data. The closed quotient EGG and audio recording were analyzed through Voce Vista Video Pro software. Singers were recorded singing an [a] vowel on a pentatonic ascending major scale starting at A5, C5, D-flat5, then E-flat5. They were recorded three times: first, prior to menstruation, second, on their first day of their menses, then third, after completing targeted vocalises during menses. Vocalises were included in this study to offer singers tools to achieve more glottal closure and sufficient subglottal pressure while menstruating. A questionnaire was given after each session to document physical symptoms and emotional response.
