요약The purpose of this study was to explore Brazilian families' management of HTN that support family functioning within the context of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) as guided by the Family Management Style Framework (FMS). Specific aims were to: 1) describe the prevalence of adequate blood pressure (BP) control in subjects cared for by the FHS and level of BP in their family member; 2) identify subject and family perspectives of facilitators and barriers (informed by contextual sociocultural influences [social and FHS support, sociocultural context], definition of situation and management behaviors that help or interfere in individual (individual with HTN BP control) functioning; and 3) identify subject and family perspectives of facilitators and barriers (informed by contextual sociocultural influences [social and FHS support and sociodemographic factors], definition ofsituation and management behaviors that help or interfere in individual (stress and QOL) and family functioning (stress, caregiver burden, and QOL). This was a cross-sectional study of 213 subjects with HTN and their 213 family members cared for by the FHS, conducted in Lapa County, Sao Paulo. Almost half of the individuals with HTN (n=102; 47.8%) had uncontrolled BP, while BP was uncontrolled in 42.2% (n=56) of family members without previously diagnosed HTN. High levels of social support was the only factor associated (OR = 3.29; 95% CI 1.44, 7.5; p = .005) with controlled BP. High levels of stress were identified in 116 (54.5%) of individuals with HTN and 106 (49.8%) of their family members. Moderate-to-severe levels of caregiver burden were found in 7% (n=15) of family members. Quality of life was considered good in 90% of individuals with HTN, as well as in their family members. Independent predictors of these individual and family functioning outcomes were identified. Limitations and implications for practice and research were discussed.
