■520    ▼aNon-Hispanic  White  Americans  are  increasingly  likely  to  see  themselves  as  targets  of  discrimination.  However,  little  is  known  about  what  leads  Whites  to  see  themselves  as  victims  of  anti-White  bias.  We  hypothesized  that  Whites  who  hold  zero-sum  beliefs  about  diversity  initiatives  (ZSBs)  would  be  more  likely  to  perceive  anti-White  bias  because  they  may  be  more  likely  to  view  gains  for  underrepresented  groups  as  unfairly  disadvantaging  them.  Study  1  showed  that  Whites'  ZSBs  predicted  greater  perceptions  of  anti-White  bias  and  this  relationship  remained  significant  after  controlling  for  11  other  intergroup  measures  (e.g.,  social  dominance  orientation,  system-justifying  beliefs,  modern  racism).  Studies  2-4  demonstrated  that  Whites'  ZSBs  predicted  greater  likelihood  of  labeling  both  themselves  (Study  2)  and  fellow  ingroup  members  (Studies  3  and  4)  as  victims  of  anti-White  bias.  Studies  5  and  6  demonstrated  the  causal  effect  of  ZSBs  on  anti-White  bias  attributions.  These  findings  identify  a  novel  antecedent  of  perceived  anti-White  bias  beyond  system-justifying  motives.
