초록/해제
요약Travel and tourism have become one of the most critical economy sectors. Nature tourism is credited explicitly with boosting the local communities through providing incentives to conserve local landscapes and ecosystems. In particular, national parks are major destinations for tourists worldwide with enormous natural, economic, social, and cultural values benefiting people's health and wellbeing. More and more tourists are sharing their experiences online, thereupon affecting other potential travelers. As a type of user-generated content (UGC), the textual reviews convey tourists' sentiments, opinions, activities, and behaviors. The decision to travel is largely impacted by sharing travel experiences among fellow travelers. It is widely held that tourists' cultural backgrounds highly influence travel experience. However, cross-cultural awareness and understanding of travel experiences in natural environments has not yet received enough attention. Hence, this study collected a large corpus of reviews from TripAdvisor in various languages to find similarities and differences in how tourists from different cultural groups interpreted their travel experiences. This study identified sentiment variations among six continents and seven cultural groups. Tourists from Oceania, North America, and Africa interpreted their travel experiences more positively than the other continents. Southern Asian visitors' expression about their travel experiences were the most emotional. In contrast, West European tourists talked about their experience with the least positive sentiments compared to other groups. This study identified four major perspectives: activity and attractions, services and infrastructures, travel companions, weather conditions, tourists mentioned when interpreting and evaluating their travel experience in the natural environment. Also, content differences and influential cultural factors were discussed based on cultural groups.
