- 요약Spiral Almanac is a meditation in sound and video on the seasonal cycles that structure our lives, and their gradual disruption due to the effects of climate change. Historically, almanacs served both social and horticultural purposes: recording holidays, festivals, and other culturally significant dates, and providing farmers with guides and predictions for best planting and harvesting times. Between our current world of climate instability and the past century's developments in meteorological technologies, this predictive function seems almost unbelievably oracular. Spiral Almanac traces the trajectory of our climate. From sonification of the first photographs of individual snowflakes - taken by Wilson Bentley in the late 1800s - blossoms and leaves, to six sided spirograph forms - a mathematical and digital simulacrum of the snowflake - to a chaotic and fading world of quietly crackling noise - sonic and visual. Alternating between image sonification and sound visualization, this piece mourns the losses caused by environmental degradation, while celebrating the beauty of existence nevertheless.
