초록/해제
요약In the three chapters integrating this dissertation, I build on an emerging literature that has put heterogeneity at the front and center of macroeconomics. By combining macroeconomic modeling techniques with evidence from micro-level data, I aim to shed light on how firm heterogeneity affects the macroeconomy in various contexts. In the first chapter, "Capital Allocation and Firm Dynamics in Open Economies," I investigate the impact of large capital inflow episodes on aggregate output, aggregate productivity, and resource allocation across firms. In the second chapter, "Revisiting the Patent Advantage: Global Evidence on Firm Age, Size, and Productivity," co-authored with Federico Diez and Carolina Villegas-Sanchez, we study the behavior of patenting firms globally. In the third chapter, "Investment Decisions and Capital Accumulation: Firm-Level Evidence from Brazil," I use firm-level data from a Brazilian industrial survey conducted annually by the Brazilian Census Bureau to show that investment is more erratic at the firm level, leading to higher volatility of aggregate investment.
