요약This dissertation presents a comprehensive investigation of the solar chromosphere through observational analyses conducted with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and the Interferometric BIdimensional Spectrometer (IBIS). The first paper focuses on a solar plage, employing ALMA in the millimeter-continuum and IBIS in the Ca II 8542 A and Na I 5896 A spectral lines. The goal is to compare local gas temperatures measured by ALMA with non-local thermodynamic equilibrium (non-LTE) inversions using the Stockholm Inversion Code (STIC). Results indicate that referencing column mass as the height scale enhances the reliability of atmospheric profiles above the temperature minimum, and accounting for non-LTE hydrogen ionization aligns chromospheric temperatures with ALMA measurements. Incorporating millimeter continuum intensities as constraints reveals insights into the chromospheric structure, emphasizing the challenges posed by electron density uncertainties in determining height(s) of formation for millimeter continuum emissions. In the second paper, time-series ALMA observations of quiet-sun and plage regions in different wavelength bands are compared with cotemporal Ca II 8542 A line profiles, probing acoustic wave indicators. Through epoch analysis and cross-correlation, consistent correspondences between acoustic shocks in the Ca II 8542 velocity and ALMA brightness temperatures are identified, unveiling challenges in relating time-domain ALMA observations to traditional spectral line diagnostics, particularly in dynamic regions with variable magnetic structures. This work contributes to our nuanced understanding of chromospheric dynamics and underscores the complexities in leveraging ALMA observations as a chromospheric thermometer, shedding light on the intricacies of solar atmospheric processes.
