초록/해제
요약This dissertation employs rhetorical and geographical concepts to analyze abandoned structures and the adaptive reuse of decommissioned intermodal shipping containers to create shelter and tiny homes. It explores placemaking through a critical lens and moves to unify diverging theoretical formations to assess one container-based intervention in the built environment. This project scrutinizes many of the benefits and drawbacks of adaptive reuse by examining The Container Experience in Graham, North Carolina as a rich and dynamic amalgam of thoughts, practices, policies, and histories. However, it does so while paying attention to a multitude of factors, conditions, and contextual nuances which may not apply to other building and placemaking situations or circumstances.
