초록/해제
요약Arabic music improvisation is relative to American jazz improvisation by proximity of modality and the order in which scale fragments are used. A parallel comparison between makam and jazz improvisation instructions proves that the two functions are analogous to each other. Jazz theorists, such as Stuart Smith, Mark Levine, and Misha Stefanuk outline modal jazz theory, voice leading, and pivot chords. The authors Ruhi Ayangil, Fikret Karakaya, and Jurgen Elsner give a clear translation of makam pentachords, tetrachords and their functions. Though any instrument can improvise, clarinets have a significance in makam taksimi and jazz improvisation due to their nature in sound and technique. Annotations of extended clarinet techniques used to facilitate clarinet improvisation are indicative to clarinet organology. The connection between the progression of clarinet models and extended techniques from the early ages through the 20th century has enriched clarinet improvisation.
