초록/해제
요약Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2021), 700 women die each year due to pregnancy related complications in the United States. Black women (Erickson, 2020) have a 26.6% higher risk for morbidity resulting from postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) and a five times higher risk of mortality. Education can serve as a tool to increase knowledge, promote a mother's ability to identify the onset of a risk and report signs and symptoms of PPH that could otherwise lead to complications or death. This DNP pilot project developed and disseminated a suite of three comprehensive educational videos for individuals and their support person(s), administered during the third trimester of pregnancy. They were designed with topics including breastfeeding, fundal massage and bladder emptying with the total viewing time of under ten minutes. The aim of the videos was through didactic and demonstration to convey knowledge on prevention and detection of complications of immediate PPH resulting from uterine atony. The methods included an on-line pre- and post-test questionnaire surrounding the viewing of the videos to assess knowledge acquisition. Information was delivered via REDCap in-person at Hartford Hospital Women's Ambulatory Health Services (WAHS) clinic (inner-city clinic) and virtually (with patients at home through zoom).Measured by SPSS (2023), results yielded the two-tailed P value was less than 0.001 by conventional criteria. This difference was extremely statistically significant resulting in an increase in participant knowledge. The program with refinements can be disseminated broadly.
