■520    ▼aIn  the  United  States,  an  effective  integration  of  non-standard  repertoire  in  Western  Classical  Music  (WCM)  canon  that  is  both  data  driven  and  culturally  informed  has  the  potential  to  create  an  immediate  and  measurable  impact.  First,  I  explore  the  consequences  of  the  underlying  principle  that  WCM  is  an  elevated  genre  of  music  and  therefore  merits,  without  question,  reverence  and  preservation,  and  how  it  is  reproduced  and  reinforced  across  different  modalities.  I  examine  the  Latino  identity  in  the  US  and  provide  insight  into  a  rich  cultural  heritage  from  which  artists  can  extrapolate  ideas  for  repertoire.  Finally,  I  investigate  how  small  scale  initiatives  afford  performing  and  teaching  artists  unique  opportunities  for  the  dissemination  of  music.
