초록/해제
요약The present study explored the relationships between body attitudes and sexual experiences in a national sample of adults of diverse gender, racial/ethnic, and sexual orientation identities. The project was situated in intersectional feminist and critical race theoretical frameworks and used a multi-method approach, with a combination of quantitative (self-report) and qualitative (long-answer and interview) data collection. A modified constructivist grounded theory methodology was used to generate novel theoretical frameworks from participants' qualitative data. Two frameworks emerged from participants' responses: 1. an ecological systems framework, in which body attitudes and sexual experiences are entangled at the individual, interpersonal, environmental, and sociocultural levels, are impacted by identity, and change over time, and 2. a mechanistic framework, highlighting the differential negative and positive bidirectional impacts that body attitudes and sexual experiences have on one another. Findings inform a discussion of novel, sex-informed psychotherapeutic approaches for body dissatisfaction integrated with feminist psychotherapy principles.
