요약Universality is a feature of many-body physics where systems with different microscopic degrees of freedom and dynamics nevertheless exhibit identical behavior at macroscopic scales. In this dissertation, we investigate new aspects of universality in both equilibrium (zero-temperature) and dynamical settings.For gapped, zero-temperature quantum many-body systems, universality is intimately related to quantum phases of matter: systems in the same phase have the same universal properties. The first part of this thesis is dedicated to a generalization of quantum phases called parametrized quantum phases. We construct a topological invariant of one-dimensional parametrized quantum systems (without symmetry) which captures the universal data of the parametrized phase. When the topological invariant is nontrivial, we show that there is an obstruction to representing the parametrized system with a globally continuous family of matrix product states.The second part of this thesis concerns hydrodynamics, the universal theory governing the dynamics of relaxation toward equilibrium. We propose and analyze new hydrodynamic universality classes for theories with unusual symmetries motivated from the physics of fractons. We develop a hydrodynamic description of higher-rank gauge theories in terms of higher-form symmetries. We then turn to the anomalous hydrodynamics of a vector conserved charge in the presence of triangular point group symmetry, which features an analogue of the chiral anomaly.
