- 요약How each member of the gestational carrying party feels about participating in psychological consultation and assessment prior to moving forward in their journeys, to my knowledge, has never before been studied. The present study sought to address this gap by interviewing 40 participants-eight psychologists who conduct these appointments, eight gestational carriers, eight gestational carriers' partners, and 16 intended parents about their experiences and perceptions of these appointments, as well as how identities, life experiences, and current, American sociopolitical context impacted their experiences with gestational carrying. Grounded in qualitative description (Sandelowski, 2000), I used polyadic content analysis to a) describe the psychosocial experiences and perceived roles of all parties involved in the psychological consultation and assessment process for gestational carrying, and b) describe the overlaps and contrasts between each parties' experiences and perceptions. A central finding from this work is that all parties involved in gestational carrying felt that a meeting with a psychologist should be required, and that these meetings were beneficial. The psychologists expressed strong convictions related to their training, professional affiliation, and approach to this work, but also demonstrated some biases in their work with gestational carriers, gestational carriers' partners, and intended parents. Participants communicated a range of responses related to COVID-19, legal abortion restrictions, and the current state of the world, including apathy, acceptance, and concern. My hope is that these results can be used to enhance psychologists' training. including how to notice and address bias, interdisciplinary engagement, and standardization of practice including the addition of therapy, as well as carve a path for future research needed to contextualize and deepen these findings. Implications for clinical practice and training are discussed.
