- 요약The expansion and development of extended techniques for horn have greatly increased since its invention. Many composers today continually push the advancement of these techniques through modern music. It is in these advancements that the physical capabilities of hornists and their instruments have been forgotten, as much of new music today is impractical for the instrument. Composers must study the instrument, its limitations, and the limitations of performers to better understand best practices to push the advancement of extended techniques. Through surveying several works by composers such as Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, and others, modern day composers will have a better understanding of the physical limitations of the instrument and how to compose in a practical manner for its performers. This treatise will provide important information regarding these techniques, examples of the ideal and unideal musical lines demonstrating these techniques, and interviews with several composers who both play and write well for the modern horn.
