- 요약This dissertation is a collection of four papers on the topic of deflationary metaontology. It argues for a moderate position where we do not recognize that philosophy has any special authority in ontological questions - a deflationary move - but at the same time we hold that philosophical methods can play a role in determining what objects there are, in continuity with natural science and the rest of our inquiry into the world.Chapter 1 explores conventionalism and its prospects for making sense of the existence of some categories of objects traditionally taken to be metaphysically dubious. We construct a coherent conventionalist position, albeit one that requires us to accept some metaphysically substantial commitments. Chapter 2 explores a different strategy for answering ontological skepticism in an exploration of Carnap's metaontology, one of the most popular styles of deflationary metaontology nowadays. Chapter 3 argues that someone attracted to Carnapian metaontology should instead embrace a different metaontological position I call "immanent metaontology". Chapter 4 explores a parallel between better known minimalisms about notions like truth, fact and property and argues that being minimalist about the notion of object is a well-motivated position and one that helps us in answering the ontological skeptic.
