초록/해제
요약This study explores the multifaceted concept of khayal as developed in the writings of a prominent Islamic philosopher and mystic, Ibn 'Arabi (1165-1240). Khayal, often translated as "imagination," extends beyond mental imagery to encompass central cosmological, ontological, epistemological, and ethical dimensions of Ibn 'Arabi's thought. This analysis is structured around four main themes drawn from Ibn 'Arabi's works and the interpretations by earlier Muslim scholar. Each theme is explored through a careful examination of relevant texts from Ibn 'Arabi's Futuḥat al-Makkiyya and Fuṣuṣ al-Ḥikam. This study emphasizes the importance of using the original term khayal instead of "imagination," as khayal encompasses diverse manifestations including psychic, spiritual, affective, and artistic expressions, all rooted in every dimension of creations in a connection with divine meanings (Names) The chapter includes discussions on the metaphysical basis of khayal, its role in understanding divine "signs" and achieving human realization; the interpretation of dreams and its subsequent understanding unseen dimensions of reality and inner perceptions; and the central role of khayal in love and spiritual perfection. The methodology is based on a grounded metaphysical and phenomenological approach, which integrates textual interpretations, terminologies, and historical commentaries. By organizing Ibn 'Arabi's centered teachings on khayal under these coherent themes, this study aims to offer a comprehensive understanding of this complex, wide range concept, connecting historical interpretations with contemporary insights and highlighting its relevance for spiritual, philosophical, and ethical discourse.
