초록/해제
요약X-ray astronomy is approaching a quiet period between the age of Chandra and XMM-Newton and the flagship x-ray observatories of the future. XRISM, which launched in 2023, will help bridge some of that gap with its Resolve instrument, consisting of a 36-pixel microcalorimeter array. Future instruments such as the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) on Athena will incorporate microcalorimeter arrays with \extgreater1000 pixels based on Transition-edge Sensor (TES) technology. Micro-X is a NASA sounding rocket payload with a 128-pixel TES microcalorimeter array with 10eV energy resolution, and is part of the flight heritage for future TES based observatories such as Athena, Lynx and LEM. This thesis will cover the Micro-X sounding rocket experiment which operated this pivotal technology in space for the first time in 2018, and collected the first astrophysical data with TESs in 2022. It will discuss the design of the Micro-X space telescope, the improvements made between the 2018 and 2022 flights, and the performance of the instrument in flight. It will conclude with a discussion of the global elemental abundances and ionization states of plasma in the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A as measured by Micro-X.
