■520    ▼aIn  summary,  the  overarching  goal  of  this  project  is  to  analyze  Novalis  from  ecocritical  and  new-materialist  perspectives,  demonstrating  the  relevance  of  historical  authors  and  their  work  to  current  environmental  issues  because  literature  is  a  potent  instrument  for  driving  change  and  transferring  knowledge.  This  project  aims  to  showcase  how  German  literature,  particularly  Novalis'  works,  can  be  re-read  in  the  context  of  contemporary  ecological  and  environmental  concerns  within  the  broader  field  of  Environmental  Humanities. From  an  ecocritical  perspective,  it  is  fascinating  to  analyze  Friedrich  von  Hardenberg  (1772-1801),  who  wrote  under  the  pen  name  Novalis.  He  was  not  just  a  poet  but  also  a  philosopher,  scientist,  and  mining  employee.  Like  Goethe,  Novalis  creatively  combined  scientific,  philosophical,  material,  and  professional  aspects  in  his  life,  writing,  and  thinking.  Therefore,  Novalis'  life  shows  that  material  and  intellectual  stimulation  are  not  one-way  but  rather  multidirectional.  For  this  reason,  Novalis  and  his  literary  works  can  be  studied  to  see  how  representations  and  understandings  of  nature  are  connected  and  how  literature  can  convey  important  scientific  and  philosophical  ideas  to  increase  awareness  of  environmental  issues.Structurally,  the  analysis  is  divided  into  three  parts,  each  contributing  to  a  comprehensive  understanding  of  Novalis  and  his  work.  The  first  part  focuses  on  the  reciprocal  influence  of  Novalis'  studies  of  contemporary  poetry  in  his  early  years,  the  natural  sciences  in  his  later  years,  and  his  literary  work.  The  second  part  is  a  detailed  exploration  of  the  landscapes  depicted  in  Novalis'  work,  offering  a  unique  perspective  on  his  environmental  consciousness.  And  the  final  third  part  delves  into  the  role  of  textual  material-its  accessibility,  availability,  and  presentation-  in  shaping  our  perception  of  Novalis  and  his  work.
