- 초록/해제
- 요약Silicon nitride photonics enables powerful functionality beyond traditional silicon photonic interconnect markets, namely low-noise lasers and oscillators with significantly reduced size, weight, and power compared to laboratory-constrained bulk optics. However, to leverage the high-volume manufacturing and high-density integration of semiconductor processing, heterogeneous integration of lasers, modulators, and detectors with silicon nitride photonics is necessary. In this thesis, low-noise silicon nitride lasers and microwave oscillators are demonstrated with performance rivaling that of bulk optics. A heterogeneous photonics platform via wafer-bonding is then introduced to combine lasers and ultra-low-loss silicon nitride resonators. Degradation and recovery of silicon nitride resonator Qs over 100 million from heterogeneous laser integration is characterized, resulting in laser-integrated microwave-rate Kerr frequency combs and record-low-noise self-injection-locked lasers. Lastly, heterogeneously integrated EO modulators and high-speed MUTC detectors are fabricated and characterized towards a PDH-locking low-noise microwave oscillator PIC.
