- 요약This year-long descriptive case study examines the pedagogical practices of an experienced specialist teacher in a school-based makerspace as she engages early elementary school students in maker-centered learning. I observed the teacher in the makerspace two to three times a week throughout the 2023-2024 school year as she developed and taught 45-minute lessons for kindergarten through second grade classes using backward design to scaffold students to achieve set learning goals by the time they complete fifth grade. The teacher utilized several techniques to increase situational interest, including books and holidays to quickly engage students in a topic and intentionally providing students choice when possible. Notably, the teacher uses a teddy bear - a holdover from her adaptation to distance learning during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic - as an inanimate teaching partner to provide backstory for lesson prompts and model 21st century competencies. Findings contribute to the growing body of research on school-based makerspaces through rich descriptions and teacher reflection, offering practical insights for educators seeking to support the development and growth of makerspaces and maker-centered learning in elementary schools.
