- 요약In this dissertation I aim to elucidate on the relationship between work, policy, and vulnerability for two distinct populations using qualitative and quantitative methods. The first vulnerable population I consider and qualitatively investigate is United States based sex workers in my first and second chapters. For my third and final chapter I quantitatively examine a second distinct population, socioeconomically disadvantaged and unmarried mothers. By looking at two distinct populations, rather than a single one, this dissertation broadly contributes to the literature on the sociology of work by showing the extent to which the interplay of policy, work, and vulnerability spans multiple contexts. It also provides evidence on the unique experiences of both populations in the context of different regulation, and ultimately, their financial wellbeing. Finally, by grounding the lines of inquiry of this research in specific policies, I provide evidence for policy makers which can be aimed at reducing inequality in specific contexts.
