초록/해제
요약The objective of my DMA research project is to expand the guitar repertoire by transcribing selected Lieder by Franz Schubert (1797-1828) for solo guitar. Inspiration for this project is drawn from the arrangements of Johann Kaspar Mertz (1806-1856), a Hungarian guitarist and composer who arranged a set of six Schubert songs for solo guitar. These pieces are widely played today and are musically effective on the instrument. I believe that the vocal works of Franz Schubert present a rich resource for transcription, arrangement, and performance. The heart of the project will be my six transcriptions for solo guitar. The written portion will include a biographical overview of the composer's life and his relationship to the guitar, an account of my methodology working through my transcriptions, and an analysis of my transcriptions. I will compare the transcriptions to the original scores, drawing attention to those aspects of the music that make them idiomatic to the guitar. There are many examples of accompanimental figures that are identical to those used by guitar composers of the time, Mertz among them. In discussing the ways in which Schubert's musical language translates to the instrument, I hope that my document can aid other guitarists who might want to adapt this music to the instrument.
