- 요약China has amassed a rich tradition of monster mythology. For centuries, Chinese people have believed that monsters are creatures transformed from plants or animals that live much longer than human beings. Records of monsters are found in various Chinese literary works, such as The Classic of Mountains and Seas (also known as Shan ai Jing), which is from the middle to late Warring States period and is the earliest written collection related to this phenomenon. In the Tang Dynasty, the legends of monsters began to flourish, continuing to this day with the novel Journey to the Western Heaven to Fetch the Buddhist Sutras, which was made into a television series.Globally, there are many records and studies of Chinese monsters, as well as appearances in various fields, such as films, literary works, games, art design, academic research and folk music. However, there is currently little research on how Chinese monsters influence piano works. The author hopes that by introducing the historical background of Tales of the Nether by Yuchen Bian, as well as providing a performance guide, this type of music will be more widely understood and popularized in the future.This research paper includes a biography of Yuchen Bian, an overview of his major works, the structure of Tales of the Nether and the style of this suite. It also includes a brief history of monster studies in China, the origin story of each individual movement's title, a description of each work and a performance guide.
