- 요약At the close of the Late Bronze Age, widespread collapse across the ancient Near East resulted in several transformations to its political, economic, and social fabric. One of the ways people reacted to these transformations was to migrate, specifically as a response to emerging conflict and threats of violence. My research explores how this collapse and subsequent migration produced refugees, which has historically been an understudied migration category. I argue that the material culture of this time (ca. 1200-1000 B.C.) represents various ways these refugees negotiated with their immediate environment to reacquire stability and safety. As first employed in archaeological study by Aaron Burke, using Michael Cernea's Impoverishment Risks and Reconstruction (IRR) model and its eight risk-associated variables with respect to forced migration, I examine the archaeological data endogenous to this period to identify the material signatures of refugees and explain how they reconstituted themselves as homesteaders who founded new settlements, as squatters who returned to the ruins of abandoned or destroyed settlements, and as migrants who integrated with existing settlements.
