- 요약The issue of college persistence has received significant attention due to persistently high dropout rates, particularly among students of color (SOC), who are often underrepresented and underserved in higher education. Traditional theoretical frameworks-most notably Tinto's theory of student integration-guided much of the college persistence literature and the development of measures, like the College Persistence Questionnaire (CPQ). However, ongoing critiques highlighted that Tinto's theory was based on culturally biased assumptions, particularly the idea that persistence depends primarily on social and academic integration into the institution. These frameworks often failed to account for the sociocultural, structural, and institutional barriers faced by SOC, as well as the need for a more nuanced understanding of persistence that honors the cultural strengths and lived experiences of marginalized students. In response, this study aimed to explored the psychometric validity and theoretical relevance of the CPQ in capturing persistence intentions of SOC in higher education. A single-group confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was conducted to determine whether the CPQ adequately captured the persistence experiences of SOC or required modification. The findings offered insight into how persistence may be more accurately conceptualized and measured for marginalized populations. Implications of the results and future directions were discussed.
