요약This thesis documents a body of work centered on the development and application of novel computational methods and theoretical frameworks spanning path sampling, stochastic optimal control, path integral formalisms, and field-theoretic simulations to investigate metastable systems across equilibrium and non-equilibrium steady-states. Key methodological contributions include variational techniques for inferring reaction mechanisms, formulation of the optimal controller for the bridge problems to generate statistically accurate reactive path ensembles, and integration of rigid body dynamics within Landau-Ginzburg models. These approaches provide physical insight into disparate condensed phase phenomena, from the mechanisms governing reactions in heterogeneous media to the emergence of orientational order of faceted nanocrystals in strongly correlated electrolytes. Venturing beyond equilibrium, the work elucidates a mechanism through which probability currents can dynamically stabilize thermodynamically unfavorable states, and proposes a simple theory to understand the response of kinetic observables to nonequilibrium activity.
