- 초록/해제
- 요약This dissertation examines how Gothic aesthetics shape Italian artistic and literary production across multiple media during the long 19th century. While the Gothic has often been framed as an imported or marginal phenomenon in Italy, I argue that Italian artists and writers actively engaged with Gothic themes, often displacing or transforming them through intermedial strategies. By focusing on four case studies, Giovanni Battista Piranesi's Carceri (etchings), Alessandro Manzoni's I promessi sposi (literature and illustration), Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor (opera), and Carmine Gallone's 1917 adaptation of Malombra (cinema), this study shows how intermediality complicates existing narratives of the Italian Gothic.
