■520    ▼aThis  dissertation  looks  closely  at  animatic  movements  in  bodies  and  space-times  that  inhabit  material  reality.  I  examine  animated  form  and  movements  to  establish  in  them,  the  co-constituted  scope  for  fantastical,  liberatory  expansions  and  pauses  and  also  torsions  of  coercive  stretch,  squeeze  and  morphs.  Within  these  simultaneous  movements,  bodies  and  space-times  in  animation  I  argue,  can  rupture.  When  the  form  prompts  their  regeneration,  these  bodies  and  space-times  often  carry  wounds  of  ruptures  within  the  ever-generating  elastic  folds  of  the  form.  Reading  this  essential  dichotomy  at  the  heart  of  the  form,  I  deploy  animated  form  as  a  methodological  tool  towards  reading  the  movements  of  material  bodies  within  the  spaces-times  of  our  contemporary  reality.  In  other  words,  I  argue  that  animation's  co-constitution  of  the  liberatory  and  the  coercive  within  singular  instants  becomes  template  towards  reading  torsions  and  sprawls  of  bodies,  spaces  and  temporalities  in  our  world.  I  argue  that  animating  material  coordinates  of  reality  can  direct  us  towards  generative  contemplations  of  their  placement  and  unwilled  subsumption  within  capitalist-colonial  structures  of  socialization.  While  these  structures  pin  material  reality  to  constant  expectations  of  flex,  animation's  stretches  and  folds  also  enable  us  to  envision  liberatory  elasticities  of  resistance  and  endurance  within  them.  Ultimately  then  animated  form  allows  unique  introspection into  the  rigorous  movements  of  capitalist-colonial  expansion  and  their  desires  for  forever  regeneration.  In  elastic  movements  coerced  from  bodies  and  space-times,  these  structures  subsume  them  within  cycles  of  perpetual  labor.  Yet  elasticity  stored  within  the  stretches  of  animatic  form  also  becomes  crucial  means  to  read  agential  movements  of  bodies  that  stretch,  move,  sometimes  pause  and  rest  within  spaces  and  threads  of  time  within  the  expanses  of  these  coercive  structures.  I  examine  twentieth  and  twenty-first  century  animation,  live-action  film  and  literary  novels  through  the  intersectional  lenses  of  ecocritical  frameworks  alongside  those  of  critical  race  theory  and  disability  theory.  I  read  animatic  method  and  movement  through  the  expanses  of  these  textual  and  theoretical  threads.  In  examining  animation's  methodological  tethering  to  and  inflection  of  material  reality,  I  animate  and  reorient  the  scope  of  contemplations  of  inter-species  and  eco-justice  in  our  contemporary  moment  of  the  Anthropocene.  Animating  reality,  I  claim  is  a  methodological  move  that  generates  a  new  way  to  decode  and  perhaps  resist  ecological  inequalities.  When  precarious  species-lives  deprioritized  in  the  Anthropocene  move  within  the  oppressive  elasticities  of  its  structures,  animatic  methodologies  witness  and  uphold  their  endurance  within  present  prisms  of  reality.
