요약The scope of this dissertation is to design and conduct a cold neutron cross section measurement for the 40Ca(n, a)37Ar reaction using the monoenergetic neutron beam at the University of Texas's TRIGA Mark II Research Reactor. Since there is disagreement on the existence of a cold neutron cross section, an experiment using alpha spectroscopy was conducted to resolve the model disagreement. The method of measurement of the cross section described here is alpha spectroscopy of a natural Ca sample under irradiation by a cold neutron beam. The experiment was repeated five times and a weighted average cross section of 196.7 +/- 47.2 mbarns was calculated confirming the cold neutron cross section does exist.
