- 요약The baritone saxophone has had fewer original compositions written for it compared to other members of the instrument family. There is a lack of awareness of the literature that currently exists for the baritone saxophone that is contributing to the instrument being underperformed in solo performance settings. In recent decades solo repertoire for the baritone saxophone has become more popular, with composers writing works for the instrument that are considered significant pieces not only for the baritone saxophone, but for the overall saxophone canon. The purpose of this dissertation is to review selected solo repertoire for the instrument and highlight its recent emerging popularity with the ultimate goal to garner the interest of more composers and performers, thus increasing the performances of solo repertoire for the baritone saxophone. The reviews found in this dissertation are intended to be used as pedagogical aids for college musicians and instructors. Information found in the reviews of selected repertoire include performance suggestions, technical challenges, and analytical elements such as musical form.
