초록/해제
요약This dissertation investigates the post-bop interactive jazz trio through a comparative analysis of trios led by guitarist Jim Hall and pianist Bill Evans, two influential figures who redefined ensemble roles within the jazz trio format. While Evans's trio is widely credited with advancing a conversational, contrapuntal approach among piano, bass, and drums, this study argues that Hall developed a similarly interactive style within his guitar trio, particularly as documented on the 1975 live album Live!. Using descriptive analysis of original transcriptions of recordings from both the Bill Evans Trio and Jim Hall's trio, the study examines how each ensemble member contributes melodically and rhythmically, and how they interact musically across selected recordings. The analysis focuses on instances of monologic and dialogic interaction to demonstrate how Hall's trio utilizes the interdependent aesthetics often attributed to the Bill Evans Trio. By highlighting Hall's underexplored innovations in the context of jazz guitar trio performance, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of interaction in jazz and expands Hall's role within the lineage of jazz guitar.
