- 요약In 1962, the British philosopher P.F. Strawson wrote Freedom and Resentment. In that paper, Strawson accomplished three feats. First, he helped solidify the now mainstream view of compatibilism in the debate surrounding moral responsibility. Second, he helped establish the field of moral psychology by describing and naming the "reactive attitudes" in his efforts to address moral responsibility. And third, he developed the "inescapability argument", which appeals to our "natures" in order to defeat skeptics who, e.g., argue that nobody is every morally responsible and we are not justified to treat people as responsible. I am primarily concerned with inescapability arguments, and I offer a novel application of the argument type. Chapter 1 offers a generalized schema of inescapability arguments. Chapter 2 applies the schema to Strawson's own ideas about moral responsibility. Chapter 3 offers a novel application of the schema to a debate in metaethics regarding ontological nihilism and normative objectivity.
