- 요약This dissertation examines the resilience and coping mechanisms of Black boys who also navigated trauma and poverty during childhood. The research begins with a comprehensive review of existing literature, addressing the prevalence and impacts of trauma, racial discrimination, and poverty. It critiques existing interventions for their limited cultural responsiveness and highlights the inadequacies in addressing the unique experiences of Black youth. Through qualitative methods, utilising in-depth interviews with Black emerging-adult males, the study explores personal, familial, community, and educational factors that contribute to resilience. The findings underscore the psychological toll of intersecting adversities, such as the isolation tied to trauma, the pressures of societal norms, and the systemic barriers within education and society. Despite these challenges, participants demonstrated significant resilience, employing independent coping mechanisms to navigate adversity and pursue personal success. Furthermore, while participants did not receive psychological support during their childhood, many independently sought mental health evaluations and interventions after turning 18. The study also identifies critical shortcomings in existing support systems. It emphasizes the need for culturally responsive interventions, particularly within trauma-focused therapies and educational practices. Protective factors, including family support, community engagement, and racial socialization, are highlighted as pivotal in mitigating the adverse effects of trauma and discrimination. The research advocates for systemic changes to address structural inequalities, improve access to culturally attuned mental health services, and foster inclusive educational environments.
