요약This study examined K-12 music teachers' awareness, perspectives, and classroom practices related to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in the Southwestern United States-a region facing distinct environmental and social challenges such as water scarcity, extreme heat, and community health concerns. Grounded in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the research investigated how music educators conceptualize sustainability and the extent to which they integrate related themes into instruction. Using a survey design, data were collected from 102 K-12 music teachers representing diverse grade levels, teaching assignments, and school locales. The survey included both quantitative Likert-type items and open-ended questions to address five guiding research questions. Several conclusions emerged from the analyses. First, teachers reported general recognition of sustainability themes but demonstrated limited conceptual depth, reflecting fragmented and practice-centered understandings rather than alignment with established ESD frameworks such as the SDGs. Second, teachers perceived sustainability as most relevant in equity and community domains, with environmental and economic dimensions receiving less emphasis. Third, integration was present but modest, often reflected in pragmatic choices-such as materials, repertoire, or classroom routines- rather than intentional curricular design. Fourth, professional development functioned as a key driver, as teachers with ESD-related professional development (PD) were substantially more likely to integrate sustainability concepts. Fifth, commonly cited barriers-including insufficient training, time, resources, curricular constraints, political sensitivities, and uncertainty about disciplinary connections-were strongly reflected in participants' responses. These conclusions, especially those regarding integration, should be interpreted cautiously in light of smaller subsample sizes and therefore viewed as descriptive rather than generalizable. The anticipated barriers-insufficient training, curricular constraints, political pressures, and uncertainty about how to connect sustainability to music-were borne out in the data. The study contributes music-specific nuances-such as instrument care, repertoire choices, and program viability-as distinctive entry points into sustainability.
