- 요약Tickborne diseases represent the largest share of vector-borne disease by case numbers in the United States and are set to only grow with the changing climate and environment. The primary vector for most of the tickborne diseases in the US is Ixodes scapularis, being responsible for Lyme disease, leading cause of vector-borne related morbidity in the US. However, the field of tickborne diseases in public health has often focused mainly on the human health aspect and as such interventions and treatments are focused solely on one facet of the endemic cycle that is characteristic of any vector-borne disease cycle. This highlights the importance of continued research into the field of tickborne disease. To truly understand tickborne diseases, we must approach this problem with a One-Health framework and look at not just the human health aspects but also focus on the vectors involved, the wildlife hosts and the pathogens and other microbes that may have a role in this. This dissertation aims to help build tools and a foundation to aid in future research focused on the tick, their wildlife hosts and the pathogens involved. Aim 1's goal is to address the gaps in literature on tick surveillance for non-nymphal life stages which are not of direct human health concern. Aim 2 seeks to utilize the data collected in Aim 1 and from the literature to identify important hosts or timepoints in a tickborne pathogen's endemic circulation. While Aim 3 seeks to develop tools to aid in future research of tick-pathogen interactions studies and possibly open novel control avenues to help control the levels of tick or tickborne pathogens in the wild.
