- 요약The goals of environmental education (EE) are to foster an awareness of the interdependence of social, economic, political, and ecological factors in both rural and urban areas, to provide individuals with the skills, knowledge, attitudes, and values to protect and improve the environment, and to create new patterns of behavior both individually and collectively towards the environment (UNSECO, 1977). This includes climate change education (CCE). Research has been conducted on attitudes in relation to knowledge and/or skills, but little research has been done surrounding emotions and their role in EE, specifically CCE, in relation to values and patterns of behavior taken or not taken regarding the environment and climate change. An even smaller amount of research has been done in relation to climate emotions and youth ages 18-24, especially pre-service teachers, who are responsible for educating future generations. This dissertation explores how emotions have been covered in the field of EE so far and use that to inform a study on how pre-service teachers process emotions in an undergraduate climate change course for educators.As a single case study, using humanizing research to guide research design, there were three foci of analysis. The first focus of analysis was on exploring the nuance in emotions that the pre-service teachers expressed that they experienced during their time in the course. The second focus of analysis was on how the pre-service teachers' expressed emotional experiences influence their perspectives on climate change and education. The third focus of analysis was on the intersection of climate emotions and the structure and pedagogy of the course. Data collection about the case consisted of observations, interviews, and artifacts to aid in the data triangulation (Yin, 2018). A primarily inductive analytic strategy used both a small amount of a priori codes and a majority of in vivo codes. Simultaneous coding focusing on emotion coding as well as different elements of the course, such as either the structure of the course or perspectives and values regarding climate change and/or education, was initially conducted, and then a second round consisting of pattern coding was conducted (Saldana, 2016). This was done to pull out the patterns in the data and highlight the themes that surrounded pre-service teachers' processing of emotions regarding climate change in an undergraduate course on climate change for educators. The patterns in the data provide more information on how to support pre-service teachers in the processing of their climate emotions for their well-being and to be able to aid their future students in the processing of climate emotions.
