1 APPARATUS FOR READING AND/OR WRITING INFORMATION FROM/ONTO AN OPTICAL DATA CARRIER / KONINKLIJKE PHILIPS ELECTRONICS N.V.
An apparatus in accordance with the invention for reading and/or writing information from/onto an optical data carrier (1) has a transducer (5) for generating a detection signal (SS0) in response to a signal (x) recorded on the data carrier. The apparatus has correction means (16, 17, 18) for reducing errors in the detection signal (SS0) as a result of radial tilt. The apparatus further has error signal generating means (20) for generating an error signal (SSe) for the correction means (16, 17, 18). The error signal generating means (20) calculate the error signal (SSe) from correlations between a first auxiliary signal (SS1) and a second auxiliary signal (SS2) and from correlations between the first auxiliary signal (SS1) and a third auxiliary signal (SS3), which auxiliary signals are derived from the detection signal (SS0). The second (SS2) and the third auxiliary signal (SS3) are estimates of the recorded signal (x). The first and the third auxiliary signal (SS1, SS3) respectively have a first delay and a second delay (T) with respect to the second auxiliary signal (SS2), the magnitude of the delays corresponding respectively to the duration of one revolution and two revolutions of the data carrier.
2 High speed decoding of Reed-Solomon codes / International Business Machines Corporation (Armonk NY 02)
This specification covers a simplified and high speed decoding scheme for Reed-Solomon codes capable of correcting up to three symbol errors in code words made up of k data and n-k check symbols where each symbol consists of m binary bits of information. In such a code the error location polynomial sx) =xe +s1xe-1 . . . . se where e equals the number of symbol errors and the coefficient of sx) are related to the error syndromes Si by the equation Si+e +s1Si+e-1 +. . . . +se-1 Si+1 +seSi =0. The decoder first tests if S0 =0. If S0 ≠0, the assumption is made that a single symbol error has occurred. The decoder quickly verifies this by determining if S2 +sS1 =0 and S3 +sS2 =0 when sS1/S0. If the error is not a single symbol error the decoder goes on to determine if a double symbol error has occurred and then goes on to determine if there are triple symbol errors if it turns out that a double symbol error has not occurred.
3 CALIBRATOR FOR THREE-DIMENSIONAL MEASURING APPARATUS / TOYOTA MOTOR CORP
(PURPOSE) To enable accurate measurement of a three-dimensional shape constantly by arranging a two-dimensional position detector and a mounting errors computing circuit to correct an output value of a three-dimensional measuring apparatus. (CONSTITUTION) When a laser displacement meter LD is mounted on a head HD, first a second-dimensional position detector M1 is placed on a reference surface of a three- dimensional measuring apparatus TD and then, the three-dimensional measuring apparatus TD is operated to move the head HD to a position as opposed to a reference position of the reference surface SS. Then, the head HD is driven only in a direction Z from the position to be moved to another position and a laser beam is emitted from the displacement meter LD to detect coordinates of an arrival point thereof with the two-dimensional position detector M1. Then, a means M2 for calculating errors of mounting on the head can calculate errors in mounting of the laser displacement LD on the head HD from three-dimensional coordinates of the head HD based on a given operational expression at two positions of the head, a distance from the displacement meter LD to the surface of the reference surface SS, data of coordinates at a laser beam arrival point on the reference surface SS. This enables accurate measurement of a three-dimensional shape constantly.

The adjustment range of a seat is divided into a large number of coded incremental steps. At intervals, mechanical position stops (MA1,MA2) are set, monitored by an incremental generator and sensor to determine the actual position of the seat. Before each stop, a soft stop (SS1,SS2) is designated, set, e.g. by the control system based on the occupants weight. - Errors in the control and monitoring systems can result in an error between measured and actual positions so that the soft stop requires to be reset. For this, zones (EB1,EB2) are set in which it is permissible to reset the soft stop.

6 QUALITY CONTROL EQUIPMENTS FOR DIGITAL TRANSMISSION CONNECTIONS / TREMEL, Jean-Yves
The equipment according to the invention is intended to the quality control at bit level of a digital connection in the presence of real traffic. The equipment respects the CCITT recommendations and is comprised of two control stations (SP, SS) located respectively at two ends of the digital connection (LT) and interconnected by a service liaison (LS). First and second control information related to transmitted raster groups (MTnP) and to received raster groups (MTnS), respectively, are calculated in stations and comparisons are carried out in order to detect transmission errors. The control information and the raster groups concerned by the transmission errors are transmitted from one station to another through the service liaison. The means are distributed amongst stations in order to process the raster groups concerned by the transmission errors, that is to say analyse at bit level the errors in erroneous rasters and to produce statistical information and recordings related to said errors.

8 Method of controlling clamp induced ringing / Apple Computer, Inc.
A method of designing improved CMOS input circuits by understanding and selecting appropriate drive strength for a CMOS output from a previous stage. The method involves modeling the net using HSPICE and including a transit time term to accurately model charge storage, then size drivers as needed to keep the V.sub.ss clamps out of forward conduction. Excessive ringing can cause data errors in the input stage if unterminated, falling edge transitions in such a net can turn on a receiver's V.sub.ss clamp diode (stored charge in the V.sub.ss clamp diode combined with the line's inductance and the receiver's capacitance form an energized resonant circuit which can release energy at a time to cause a data glitch). Currently, XNS simulation miscalculates the ring amplitude by a factor of three. Driver scaling and termination can eliminate the problem by keeping the receiver's V.sub.ss clamp out of forward conduction. Driver sizing can control the problem. Lower current will turn the clamp on for a shorter amount of time, and change the position of the ring. Improved modeling or simulation can allow selection of correct driver sizes and other circuit elements.
9 Quality check equipments for digital transmission links / French State Represented by the Minister of the Post, Telecommunications and Space Centre National D Etudes des Telecommunications (Issy-les-Moulineaux FRX 07)
An equipment embodying the invention is designed for bit-level quality check of a digital link in the presence of real traffic. The equipment complies with CCITT recommendations and comprises two checking stations (SP, SS) respectively located at two ends of the digital link (LT) and connected to one another by a service link (LS). First and second check information relating respectively to groups of transmitted frames (MTnp) and to groups of received frames (MTns) are calculated in the stations and comparisons are made in order to detect the transmission errors. The check informations and the frame groups concerned by the transmission errors are transmitted from one station to the other via the service link. Processing circuits are distributed among the stations thereby processing the frame groups concerned by the transmission errors, i.e., analyzing at bit level the errors in the erroneous frames and deriving statistical information and recordings relating to said errors.
10 METHOD OF DIVIDING PATTERN IN CHARGED PARTICLE BEAM LITHOGRAPHY / JEOL LTD
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow scanning rounding errors to be as small as possible when drawing a pattern with respect to a method of dividing a pattern. SOLUTION: The method of drawing the pattern includes the steps of determining a pattern division size (Sp) and scanning step size (Ss), determining a reference value for dividing a quadrangle pattern into a rectangular pattern and trapezoid one, dividing the pattern to be drawn into the field size and/or subfield one, dividing the rectangular pattern with the length of a side to be in integral multiple of the size (Sp) from the pattern formed by the foregoing division, and dividing the rectangular pattern with the length of each side to be in integral multiple of each size of (Sp) and (Ss) from a pattern portion left by dividing the rectangular pattern with the length of the side to be in integral multiple of the size (Sp). Further, the method includes the step of dividing the rectangular pattern with the length of the side to be in integral multiple of the size (Ss) from the pattern portion left by dividing the rectangular portion with the length of each side to be integral multiple of each size of Sp and Ss.
